About Us:
Central States Health & Welfare and Pension Funds are two of the largest, multibillion dollar non-profit trust funds in the country. The Funds administer health and pension benefits to nearly one million Teamster members and participants with over 1,000 contributing employers to the Funds. Our building (constructed in 2019) is walking distance to the CTA Blue Line and close to O’Hare Airport.

 

The Accounting Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of financial operations within the accounting department. The Accounting Supervisor will collaborate with the accounting team on day-to-day activities, lead month-end closing activities, manage the preparation of financial statements, and identify opportunities for process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily processing of wire transfers, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and regulations.
  • Oversee the review and approval process of journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Take charge of month-end closing activities, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Direct the preparation and review of monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Complete monthly reviews of bank statements to verify transactions, reconcile accounts, and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Analyze and investigate reconciliation variances, assisting management to develop appropriate action plans addressing issues.
  • Develop monthly forecasts for funds, including contributions, benefits, and general/administrative expenses, to support financial planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare and update annual audited financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation, explanations, and support to ensure smooth audit processes.
  • Improve processes by working to automate and refine tasks to ease workload during periods of high volume.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related experience.
  •  Supervisor experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel. Experience with Infor SunSystems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and implementing best practices.
  • Consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and professionalism.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Capability to work extra hours when required.

  • Starting salary between $70,000-$83,000
