About Us:
Central States Health & Welfare and Pension Funds are two of the largest, multibillion dollar non-profit trust funds in the country. The Funds administer health and pension benefits to nearly one million Teamster members and participants with over 1,000 contributing employers to the Funds. Our building (constructed in 2019) is walking distance to the CTA Blue Line and close to O’Hare Airport.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist in the distribution of benefits by performing the following tasks:

 

  • Prepare daily deposit of Health and Welfare checks in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Process Pension check voids in our payment system. Maintain control of incoming returned Pension benefit checks and re-mail if possible.
  • Prepare and maintain record of IRS Levy deductions for pensioners, issue correspondence and IRS forms to retirees regarding levies, calculate levy amounts, make determination as to whether member is exempt from levy, set up IRS levy deductions in our payment system, answer questions from retirees regarding IRS levies, and speak to IRS agents regarding levies.
  • Issue refunds of retiree health insurance deductions.
  • Balance checks issued in our Health and Welfare claims system. Prepare report of claims processed, check counts and amounts. Authorize release of checks to Mail Room.
  • Confirm accuracy of nightly transmission of Health and Welfare issues and voids.  
  • Void Health and Welfare checks from reports and requests.
  • Input EFT data in our payment system.
  • Call in daily Pension pre-note counts and amounts to BNY Mellon Bank.

The candidate will be expected to perform other duties and backup other departmental functions.  The candidate will have extensive contact with other internal areas, pensioners, and IRS agents.  

Qualifications

  • Extensive prior work experience reconciling numbers/balancing a ledger
  • Prior financial or banking experience
  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to correspond with sensitivity and tact
  • Must be self-motivated and dependable
  • Beginner knowledge of Excel
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred, not required)

 

Starting Pay: $34.14/hour
