Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our Legal Team and support our litigation work on behalf of Trustees and benefit funds. In this role you will assist attorneys in all phases of case preparation, from document drafting and filings, through discovery and trial support, to post-judgment activities. This role provides administrative and operational support to ensure smooth, efficient workflows and plays a part in supporting the company’s legal processes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys in preparing legal documents for litigation, including summonses, civil cover sheets and affidavits.
  • Typing of court documents (briefs, etc.) using Tables of Contents / Authorities.
  • Assist with e-filing, maintain filing calendars and court deadlines.
  • Manage case file systems (both electronic and physical), ensuring all documentation, correspondence, and records are updated, organized, and readily accessible.
  • Coordinate attorney calendars, schedule hearings/depositions/meetings, make travel and logistics arrangements, and attorney billing and expense tracking.
  • Prepare and organize discovery requests and responses, indexing documents, managing exhibits, and tracking deadlines.
  • Prepare routine legal correspondence, memos, letters, and internal status reports; proofread and format documents to meet department standards.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as answering phones, directing calls/emails, processing invoices and payments, processing mail, and supporting general office duties.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred, ideally in legal studies or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of administrative experience, with at least 3 years in a legal environment.
  • Working knowledge of Nextpoint discovery software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with document management or case management software and e-filing and court filing procedures preferred.
  • Excellent typing, written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and proofreading.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment, professional demeanor, and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal and client information.
  • Self-starter who works well independently as well as part of a team; willingness to assist attorneys and colleagues as needed.

 

Compensation

 

Salary: $34.78 per hour
